Writing for the Web & Navigation

Be consistent with the flow, font and format so students can easily navigate the content. Make the webpage easy to read, use bold headings and subheadings. Put keywords in the titles and use bulleted lists.

  • Get to the point

  • Capture Attention

  • Don't center text

  • Keep Headers and links flush left

In the article, "Writing For The Web", from the Center for Parent Information and Resources dated September 2014, I noted readers sweep your page in an "F" shape, headings and subheadings catch attention, particularly when they are in the form of a question. As in news writing, put the most important information first because people skim and scan the page.

While the page itself was written in a clean font with bold subheadings, I noticed the use of red font for some of the material and wondered how that would affect individuals who are color blind.
