What is a Rubric and How Do We Create One?

A rubric is a tool for evaluating performance using a scoring scale based on predetermined critera. Rubrics allow consistent evaluation and allow students to self-monitor their work. A good rubric sets expectations and reduces time grading a students work.

Elements of a rubric:

  • Simply to read

  • Criteria is clearly defined

  • Gradients of achiement are measureable
