Peer Engagement

Online coursework differs from classroom in that it is student-centered. It must be designed to create student to student interaction by creating  collaborative projects, engaging activities and opportunities for students to develop a learning community.

Activities must be relevant and be something students find of value. Social interaction with peers promotes growth. Students can interact on Discussion Boards, by commenting on Blog entries, completing group projects and by providing feedback for one another. An example might be having a student post 3 main ideas from a novel reading, add 2 questions he has about the theme and respond to 1 of his peer's questions. Students can learn from one another and build on the knowledge they've obtained on their own. Collaboration between students assists in the success of the online learner.
