Digital Citizenship

When considering digital citizenship, we must ask what is ethical and help teach our students learn how to be ethical online. Teaching them to protect their privacy, respect others, no tolerance for cyberbullying is no different than other classroom etiquette management. Students must behave safe and responible online.

Instructors can introduce good digital citizenship by first modeling responsible behaviors, but also by conducting role playing scenarios to show how to:

  • Protect Privacy

  • Stop Cyperbullying

  • Respect themselves and others

  • Stay safe on the internet

  • Balance time online

  • Respect Copyright

As part of any online course, instructors can address expectations of digital citizenship in their syllabus and monitor responses and discussions regularly to maintain a virtual classroom with proper netiquette.
